Discover Lisbon

Lisbon guide

Lisbon is an incredibly vibrant city with so much charm, living culture and history that Equity Point simply had to have a hostel there. After two years searching, we’ve found the perfect location.

This wonderful city is full of secret places to discover and neighborhoods to explore. It is the westernmost capital in Europe, located at the river mouth of Tajo River and built clustered upon seven hills, so if you want to visit the city it is important to wear comfortable shoes, and be prepared to climb stairs!

Lisbon is known for being a place where you can find a piece of history on every corner, although it suffered an earthquake in 1755 and many buildings date from that era. But in any case, you can still find many places to remind you that the city’s history dates back to before the Roman era.

In Lisbon you can find two UNESCO protected buildings: the Tower of Belém and the Jerónimos Monastery of Belém, although there are in fact many more historic buildings to visit, such as the Elevador de Santa Justa in the Alfama district and the Castle of Sao Jorge, whose privileged position above the city offers priceless views.

It is also a great place to enjoy a vibrant and delicious cuisine. In the Chiado district you can taste the famous 'Pastéis Nata' in the Brazilian Café ('A Brasileira'), following in the footsteps of the poet Fernando Pessoa. It’s also essential to try the 'Bacalhau' –cod fish-, one of the local cuisine’s most typical dishes.

In every visit to Lisbon you mustn’t forget to stroll through the Barrio Alto, the most iconic neighborhood, and go to the Belvedere de São Pedro de Alcântara, not only for its views but also to have a drink and enjoy the nightlife.

But the most amazing thing about Lisbon is all the enthusiastic people who live there and crowd the Fado music bars in the Bairro Alto, where charming old-world streetcars and countless small restaurants conspire to create a magical, unforgettable atmosphere.

Lisbon is a cosmopolitan city with a wide variety of tourist attractions that can offer both an intimate and romantic getaway for couples, and some of the most vibrant nightlife in Europe to enjoy with friends.
