Of course there are plenty of amazing things to see in Barcelona for free from strolling along the beaches or getting lost in the medieval Old Town, but this summer there’s a bumper load of great gigs and more to enjoy – and all for free too! Here’s our list of our favourite things to do in Barcelona this summer without spending a Euro!

Cinema on the beach

Free cinema on the beach – Cinema Lliure a la Platja

Yes, free! There’s a whole load of movies being shown in the open air down on the beach, all you need to do is grab a space in the sand! Known as Cinema Lliure a la Platja, every Thursday and Sunday there’s a free film on Sant Sebastià beach (in Barcelonetta). There’s a programme of contemporary films from different countries, don’t miss out! Find out what’s on here.

Festa Major

Festa Major

Barcelona Neighbourhood Bloc Parties at the Festa Major!!

Barcelona likes to throw parties all summer long, and each neighbourhood has a week-long summer Street Party – the Festa Major. That means 10 weeks of parties in total by the time each neighbourhood has celebrated! They generally involve castellers (human tower displays), music and dancing in the street and lots of merriment. The most famous is the Les Festes de Gràcia (one week in August) where the streets are decorated with various themes and there is a music stage in the main square. This is a great time to see the locals having fun and enjoy the atmosphere of a street party. With live music and plenty of beers in the streets, these are great free events to make like a local!
