What’s happening in Europe this Summer
If you’re into music then you’re in luck as there’s plenty of live music performances taking place and lots of them are free! If you’re not heading to a festival then just jump into the local ones and check out what’s happening in the streets and squares across Europe.
Prague Jazz Weekend
This annual festival takes place in downtown Prague with performances all around the old town – and all for free! Acts include Rhythm Desperados and AghaRTA BAND. Check out what’s on the programme here
Festival of Love – London
July to 29th August
London hosts its annual big riverside party at the Southbank Centre, and this year it’s a Celebration of Love! There are plenty of free performances, from music to dance and some super big circus shows. Check out Klanghaus: On Air which is a huge musical experience that takes place on the Royal Festival Hall roof, and Air Play – a circus adventure. There are also plenty of art installations to enjoy and explore all The whole of London’s Southbank is packed with art installations, performances and pop up bars and restaurants so it’s a great place to check out this summer!
Jazz em Agosto – Jazz Festival 4 – 14 August
Heading to Lisbon? Don’t miss the Jazz in Agosto from 4-14th for the 33rd festival, including 11 outdoor concerts in the amphitheatre and documentaries showing around town. With some of the biggest international performances, this year aims at a ‘contemporary’ feel. Acts include Marc Ribot The Young Philadelphians + Lisbon String trio, Petite Moutarde, Z-Country Paradise and The South of the North – Norway and the European Jazz Scene and Frank Gratkowski.
Barcelona’s Fiesta Major
Enjoy the summer-long festival in Barcelona, the Festa Major. Shifting neighbourhood weekly, the parties take place all over town for the whole summer. With a festive feel in the streets, there are stages set up for live music performances and some great parties taking place. Enjoy everything from samba bands to human towers (castellers). The best known (and with the best street decorationss) is the Les Festes de Gràcia (for a week in August). The performances are all free and it’s a great place to grab a few beers of the street vendors and have a dance with the locals!
London’s Cutty Sark Comedy Festival
22nd July to 4th August
Hit up some comedy in South London at the Cutty Sark Comedy Festival, named after the famous ship which hosts the acts and is docked in historic Greenwich. Including plenty of comedy acts heading to the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, there are famous acts as well as newcomers. Acts performing this year include Josie Long, Elf Lyons, Seann Walsh, and Henry Parker. Find out more here.
