Not known for its wild parties, the Moroccan city is still a vibrant place after dark to enjoy the cafe and bar scene. Check out our tips for what to do in Marrakech at night.
What to do in Marrakech at Night
If you’re looking for happy hour and all night partying then Marrakech might not be the destination for you; but there’s plenty to do in the evenings from glamorous hotel bars to relaxed cafes. Here are some of our top tips.
Of course the first thing to do at sunset in Marrakech is to head to the Jemaa el Fna to take in the street theater. This is the best time to go for eating street food from the bbqs and listening to live music from the local musicians – all playing a variety of instrument and style. It’s chaotic and beautiful and a great place to while away time enjoying the scene. Grab a mint tea and a street seat and enjoy the action taking place in front of you. Many of the market stalls are still open so it’s an opportunity to stroll through the stalls again at night.
Cafe’s in the main square
Cafe de France in the main square has lovely views of the Atlas mountains from the roof top and is well known for its famous clientele and literary history – the food is touristy but it’s a great spot. Cafe des Epices is another great place for enjoying the street scene and having a drink on the terrace. They’re both a little touristy but have good locations.
A local place to try with a great roof top view is Kosy Bar (open until 1am) which has a good drinks menu and lively atmosphere. You can see the Koutoubia from the roof top and the lively streets below – there is also a dinner menu. They have live music and a great ambience so it’s worth checking out!
This is one of our favourites in the Medina that is stylish and peaceful (compared to the streets below) and offers spectacular mountain views from the rooftop. It’s a stylish lounge bar in Moroccan style, and a great place to spend the evening. The prices are a little bit touristy but it’s worth it for the view!
Le Comptoir dancers
Le Comptoir is more of an experience than just a meal, this place is famed for it’s theatrical French-Moroccan cuisine. They also have a lounge bar and club where you can enjoy a cocktail and watch belly dancing, live music and extraordinary parties – and the tajine is pretty good too! Every evening they have live music from the traditional orchestra band of Comptoir Darna which plays Spanish and Moroccan music from the stairs. They also have the live band and dance act Gnaoua.
There are nightly live music events here with 2 large bars and a host of famous people who have passed through their doors. There’s a dancefloor and a good cocktail menu so this is the place to get your groove on.
Luxury at Bar Churchill at La Mamounia
This is not a budget option but if you wanted an upmarket night then it’s one of the most glamorous hotel bars in the city. There’s a dress code so don’t turn up in your backpacking gear, and you may only want to budget for one cocktail, but the surroundings are sumptuous and it’s quite a cool 1930’s style bar!
