From cabaret and London Wine Week to exploring the museums at night, there’s plenty going on in London this spring – here are a few things not to miss.
London Wonderground from 5th May
As the name suggests this is a circus or fun, comedy and cabaret on London’s South Bank. Running until 25th September this is a chance to see a whole host of acts in tandem with the Underbelly Festival on the river.
European Aquatic Championships 9th-22nd May
If you’re into Aquatics then don’t miss these – this is the last test before the Olympic Games in Rio for 2016 as the best swimmers, divers and synchronised swimmers from around Europe compete for the championships.
Museum Night May 11th-14th
Most of London’s museums are free to the public anyway but this annual Museum Night nationwide means you can also visit after hours – a thrill if you’re into museums, at night! There are also lots of special talks, live music, torch-lit performances and more.
Trafalgar Square Big Screens Begin 18th May until 14th July
All summer long you can see free live ballet and opera from the the Royal Opera House – right in the centre at Trafalgar Square. It’s free to go, and a great place to take a picnic. There are screens all across the UK including a few more around London. All you need to do is grab a place to sit!
State Opening of Parliament May 18th
The Queen officially opens Parliament in this traditional ceremony dating back to the 16th century. The State Opening of Parliament is the most important event of the parliamentary year and is a well known traditional event.
London Wine Week 23rd-29th May
One of our favourite celebrations – the whole city picks a week to celebrate fine wine. Lots of bars and restaurants will be taking place but there are also pop-up bars, roof top BBQs, parties and events at various great locations around town, including Devonshire Square.
Chelsea Flower Show 24-28th May
Famous world wide as the biggest and best flower show, Chelsea is a don’t miss for flower lovers. For over 200 years the flower show has been taking place, organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, with various events taking place as well as the show.
Royal Marines Beating Retreat 25-26th May
This is a famous military pageant that takes place biannually on Horse Guards Parade by Buckingham Palace. It dates back to the 16th century and this year celebrates Prince Philip’s birthday. You can buy tickets to attend.
21st May – FA Cup Final
Football fans will know this date already as the the FA Cup Final plays out in London. If you’re town you’ll known about it too as London team Crystal Palace plays Manchester United.
