The free breakfast at Equity Point Lisboa looks like this

One of Equity Point Hostel’s signatures is that we serve a basic free breakfast at all our hostels. The content of this breakfast may vary depending on the kind of food that’s available at each country and also may slightly fluctuate seasonally.

Many people ask us about what’s included at our breakfast so we’ve decided to start a series of posts with pictures of those meals. And today we will start for Equity Point Lisboa’s breakfast which includes: coffee, milk, tea, juices, cereals, bread, jam, butter, chocolate cream and fruit.

Enjoy it! Continue reading

Turn your suitcase into a shelf

Are you the kind of person who likes to build its own furniture? Do you like to recycle your old stuff to give them a second life?

The staff at Equity Point Lisbon had a great idea and turned a suitcase into a different book shelf that fits perfectly the common room of the hostel.

We have posted the pictures of all the process at Facebook so you can do it yourself at home.

I love the idea and how it fits Equity Point Lisboa’s common room decoration, don’t you?

Festas de Lisboa 2012

During all June Lisbon will be celebrating the biggest city street parties with exhibitions, cinema, theater plays, concerts and whatever you may imagine. If you want to enjoy Lisbon on its biggest yearly time you only have to come to visit us at Equity Point Lisboa. We are really close to most of Festas de Lisboa events.

The biggest event will take place on June 12th. Lisbon gets crowded and the streets got full of sardines, bread and wine, and we will also cook our own sardines at Equity Point Lisboa. But there’s not only food, there’s also a competition between historical neighborhoods with “Marchas Populares”, so everybody prepares original costumes, music and dances.

Pastéis de Nata, a delicious Lisbon cake

PasteisDeNata

When you visit Lisbon you shouldn’t miss its rich gastronomy. There are some traditional dishes that have a spectacular taste such as Bacalhau –cod fish- but there’s also a cake that will blow your mind: the Pastéis de Nata, or Pastéis de Belem –custard tarts-.

The original recipe of Pastéis de Nata was created before the XVIII century by the monks at Lisbons Jerónimos Monastery. At first it was only for monastery residents. But soon, after a liberal revolution, all the Monasteries where shut down. Someone from Jerónimos Monastery started making Pastéis de Nata at Casa Pastéis de Belem –a bakery in Belem– in order to survive.

Quickly the Pastéis de Nata became really popular at Lisbon and nowadays it’s the most popular cake in Portugal. A tart you should eat at least once when you go to Lisbon.

And remember you’ll feel like home at Equity Point Lisboa our youth hostel in Lisbon.

Lisbon’s Pátio da Galé

patiogale200

After some years of restoration this February Pátio da Galé –Praça do Comércio- was reopened. The Galé is the original patio of the Royal Palace and the House of India, so it has an important heritage that dates from 1755 when an important earthquake destroyed the city and the Maquês de Pombal approved the project.

After the restoration Pátio da Galé has recovered all the glamour of previous ages and it’s an unforgettable visit for the tourist and also it’s an important meeting point for Lisbon’s citizens.

At Pátio da Galé you can find: restaurants, a gallery for exhibitions and events, an ice cream bar, the Lisbon Shop, and a tourist office. And the best of it all is that it’s just 15 minutes away walking from Equity Point Lisboa.
